YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris Volleyball fell 3-1 at home to King University in a Conference Carolina's clash on Sunday afternoon. The key difference in the match was King's ability to rattle off late scoring runs to win sets. Princess Emma Oluwa led the Tornado with 15 kills.
Abby Schirm and
Shelby Mullins each tallied 10 kills in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Young Harris came out firing and took the first set 25-23. Two kills from
Shelby Mullins helped the Mountain Lions jump out to an early 8-4 advantage. Oluwa found the hardwood for King to bring them within three, but points from YHC's
Nicole Klucharich and
Lily Hidalgo extended the lead to 19-15. The Tornado rattled off three points in a row, which brought the score to 23-22 in favor of the Mountain Lions. Hidalgo scored back-to-back points to close out the set and put Young Harris up 1-0.
King responded in the second set, winning 25-15 to tie the match up at one. 13 kills from The Tornado and eight Mountain Lion errors made for a quick second set. Bailey Fersner and Oluwa paced King's offense in the set victory with four and three kills, respectively.
The third set was back-and-forth from the first serve.
Shelby Mullins scored and Schirm added two straight service aces to put the Mountain Lions up 10-5. Kills from Chloe Clayton and Amaya Hall helped King get back within a point. A service error from Clayton saw YHC take the 20-15 lead. The Tornado went on an eight-point scoring run which put them ahead 24-21. Hidalgo and Schirm scored and a service ace from
Joha Bernis knotted the set at 24. King's Riley Nelson and Oluwa found the hardwood to close out the set and put the Tornado ahead 2-1.
King kept their momentum and prevailed 25-12 in the fourth set to win the match. A kill and a service ace from Clayton put the Tornado up 15-4. Two kills from
Rylie Springer got YHC within seven, 19-12. After that, King scored six straight points to close out the match.
NOTABLE STATS
- Shelby Mullins and Abby Schirm both had a team-high ten kills and Nicole Klucharich was not far behind at nine.
- Young Harris had 22 errors compared to Kings 11.
- Joha Bernis finished with a game-high 22 digs.
- The Tornado finished the game with 11 blocks led by Riley Nelson, who collected seven solo blocks and one block assist.
