Mountain Lions Sink Lakers Away from the Den

MORROW, Ga. | The Young Harris College men's basketball team dominated the Clayton State University Lakers on Saturday (Dec. 14) afternoon, 75-55, in non-conference action. 

The Mountain Lions controlled the lead for 92.8% of the game, leading for over 37 minutes, including a 38-29 advantage at halftime. Young Harris kept their foot on the pedal, surging again in the second half, outscoring the Lakers 38-29 to come out with a 20-point win. Karl Chavis led the charge offensively for YHC, finishing with a game-high 17 points. 

The win elevated Young Harris to 8-3 overall; CSU fell to 5-5 overall.

"I am really proud of our players facing a tough and physical Clayton State team. Our guys showed resilience for 40 minutes and executed the game plan well. We showed great togetherness all game and had incredible player leadership. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

  • Karl Chavis put up 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and went 7-9 on FT attempts. 

  • Carl Cleveland paced the Mountain Lions with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting; adding eight rebounds and two assists.  

  • CSU was led by DJ Wright, scoring 16 points. 

  • Young Harris shot 51.1% from the field, while holding the Lakers to a 36.7% success rate on FG's. 

  • YHC narrowly out-rebounded CSU, 31-30. 

  • The Mountain Lions scored 28 points off the bench, 20 points off turnovers (CSU had three), and 38 points in the paint (The Lakers scored eight).

The Mountain Lions return to play on Tuesday (Dec. 17) in Belmont, N.C. at 7:00 p.m. to face Conference Carolinas opponent Belmont Abbey College.
