Mountain Lions Women’s Cross Country Improves at NCAA Southeast Regional

SPARTANBURG, S.C. | The Young Harris College women's XC squad packed up and departed from the Enchanted Valley on Friday afternoon; their destination? Milliken Research Park in Spartanburg. The women ran at 11:15 a.m.; the challenging course tested their endurance, but the team rose to the occasion. Their performance highlighted the steady progress and dedication they've shown all season. 

QUOTE FROM DIRECTOR OF TRACK & FIELD/CROSS COUNTRY MATT LOGAN: 

"Our women have shown great progress all year. We finished three spots higher in the region this year than last year. Julia continues to run tough at the front. I'm really proud of Emily's tenacity all year. Things finally clicked for her today and her individual performance helped our team. These ladies will continue to get better and will continue to climb in the region." 

RACE RESULTS: 

  • YHC came in 21st, three spots better than last season, showing the improvement, they have made along the way, with a group made up of mostly freshman. 

  • Julia Hargrove (25:51.6) and Emily Baars (26:18.1) had the best two finished for the Mountain Lions, coming in 106th and 113th respectively.  

  • Cadence McClung (27:37.4, personal best) and Emma Anderson (27:40.1) finished nearly neck and neck with placements of 147th and 148th, rounding out the top 150 finishers for YHC.
