USC Aiken holds off Young Harris 68-66

AIKEN, S.C. | Annalise Malone scored 15 points to lead the University of South Carolina-Aiken past Young Harris College 68-66 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday (Feb. 18) afternoon at the Convocation Center.

The Pacers improved too 16-10 overall and to 10-6 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 11-13 and 7-9. YHC will travel to Greenwood, South Carolina, Wednesday (Feb. 22) for a 5:30 p.m. PBC encounter against Lander University,

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Neither team led by more than six points in the game.
  • Dustie Obah was the top Mountain Lion with 17 points, while Trinity Edwards closely followed with 16 points. 
  • JaMari Frederick (14) and Kalen Surles (11) also finished in double figures.
  • Surles also registered a double double as she pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass.
  • Young Harris led 60-56 after an Obah three-pointer with 3:34 remaining in the game, but USC Aiken scored the next 10 points to take a 66-60 lead on two free throws by Emily Trushel with 16 seconds left.
  • Obah and Frederick hit three-pointers around two free throws by Malone to get as close as two points (68-66).
  • Obah hit 5-of-9 from three-point range, while Frederick was 3-of-6.
