YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Kennedi Manning scored 14 points as Augusta University held off Young Harris College 60-47 in Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday (Jan. 7) afternoon at the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.
The Jaguars improved to 10-4 overall and to 3-1 in the league, while the Mountain Lions slipped to 5-7 and 1-3. YHC hits the road for its next three games, starting with a 5:30 p.m. PBC contest against Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia, Wednesday (Jan. 11).
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- JaMari Frederick led the Mountain Lions with 17 points. She also grabbed six rebounds.
- Mackenzie Johnson recorded her 10th double double of the season as she had 16 points and 13 rebounds (six offensive).
- Dustie Obah added eight points and she dished out four assists.
- The teams combined for 47 turnovers (Young Harris 25, Augusta 22). Frederick, Christina Nichols and Trinity Edwards each tallied three steals.
- After the teams were tied at 9 at the end of the first quarter, Augusta used a 13-0 run at the start of the second quarter to open up a 22-9 advantage with 6:30 remaining before half.
- Young Harris responded with a 9-2 run to close the second quarter to cut Augusta's lead to 24-18 at the half.
- The Mountain Lions closed to within three points (35-32) after an Obah jumper with 3:20 left in the third quarter.
- YHC trailed 40-37 after a Frederick long-distance shot with 7:58 remaining in the game before the Jaguars used a 16-4 run to take their largest lead of the game - 15 points (56-41) with 3:14 to go.
