No. 10 Augusta defeats No. 18 Young Harris 87-66 in battle of nationally ranked teams

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Miguel Arnold and Tyshaun Crawford combined for 39 points as Augusta University defeated Young Harris College 87-66 in a Peach Belt Conference men's basketball game Saturday (Jan. 7) afternoon at the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.

The 10th-ranked Jaguars improved to 13-1 overall and to 4-0 in the Peach Belt, while the 18th-ranked Mountain Lions suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to 12-1 and 3-1. It was the first-ever game in program's history where both teams were nationally ranked.  YHC starts a three-game road trip Wednesday (Jan. 11) when they travel to Columbus, Georgia, to face Columbus State University in a 7:30 p.m. PBC contest.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Eden Davis and Karl Chavis led the Mountain Lions with 11 points each, while Lenny Pradia added 10 more.
  • Young Harris opened up a 12-7 lead after Chavis sank two free throws with 16:06 left in the first half.
  • Augusta used a 7-0 run to take a 25-21 lead on a Darren Lucas-White jumper with 6:22 left before halftime.
  • The Jaguars took a 42-35 lead at the half and extended their advantage to 13 points (52-39) after an Arnold three-pointer with 15:46 to play.
  • The Mountain Lions cut the Augusta lead down to six points (58-52) after an old-fashioned three-point play from Pradia with 12:02 remaining; however, that would be as close as YHC get the remainder of the game as the Jaguars broke the contest open with a 16-6 run.
  • Both teams shot well from the floor as Augusta hit 55.7 percent (34-of-51) of its shots, while Young Harris posted 51.1 percent (23-of-45).
  • The Jaguars held a 29-24 edge in rebounding, while Augusta scored 19 points off 13 Mountain Lion turnovers.
  • Before the loss, YHC was one of four NCAA Division II schools that had been unbeaten. Even with the loss, the Mountain Lions are off to their best start in program history.
