FLORENCE, S.C. | Francis Marion University held off Young Harris College in three sets in a non-conference voilleyball match Saturday (Sept. 10) afternoon at the FMU Invitational at the Smith University Center.
The Patriots improved to 5-4 as they picked up a 25-20, 25-23, and 26-24 victory over the Mountain Lions, who fell to 3-8. Young Harris returns to the Harp Recreation and Commencement Center to open up Peach Belt Conference action with a 5 p.m. match against Georgia College.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The Mountain Lions trailed 22-11 in the third set, but the Mountain Lions scored nine unanswered points as Joha Bernis had four service aces - including three in a row - during the rally. YHC tied the set at 24, but the Patriots scored the final two points to claim the win.
- Lily Hidalgo led YHC with eight kills, while Shelby Mullins had six.
- Mollie Lawrence had 17 assists for the Mountain Lions, while Alex Boydstone had six more.
- Bernis led Young Harris with 13 digs, while Hidalgo and Lawrence contributed five each.
- The Mountain Lions recorded 11 team blocks against FMU. Sophie Bearden (two solo, four assist) and Alex Pierre (three solo, three assist) had six blocks apiece. Mullins added three assisted blocks.
