Cobras spoil season opener for Mountain Lions in four sets

DUE WEST, S.C. | Coker College won the final three sets to rally for a 22-25, 26-24, 25-19 and 25-22 victory over the Young Harris College volleyball team in the season opener Friday (Aug. 26) afternoon at the Galloway Center on the first day of the Erskine Invitational.

The Cobras improved to 1-0, while the Mountain Lions fell to 0-1. Young Harris wraps up play at the tournament with two matches Saturday (Aug. 27). They will face the University of West Georgia at 9 a.m. and Clark Atlanta University at 1 p.m.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The match was a see-saw affair that saw 26 ties and 11 lead changes. The second and fourth sets each featured 10 ties.
  • The Mountain Lions tallied 44 kills with Chase Vaigneur leading the way with 11 and Shelby Mullins also reached double figures with 10. Sophie Bearden tallied nine, while Lorin Tidick and Lily Hidalgo had five each.
  • YHC had 38 assists with Alex Boydstone and Mollie Lawrence each having 17.
  • Bearden posted four service aces as the Mountain Lions accumulated 12 in the match. Vaigneur added three.
  • Young Harris had 45 digs, with Vaigneur leading the way with 14 and Joha Bernis posting 13. 
  • Bearden led YHC with three blocks (one solo, two assist), while Haley King had two block assist.
