WESTLAKE, Ohio | Seventy-four Young Harris College student-athletes have been recognized by the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association with their D2 ADA Academic Achievement Award.
It is the highest total for the Mountain Lions in the program's history.
Young Harris had 34 repeat honorees, including 10 -
Emma Andersson (women's golf),
Morgan Curley (softball),
Sam Davis (softball),
Eduardo D'Avino (men's soccer),
Jing Dong (women's tennis),
Adam Kirkwood (men's soccer),
Ala Ramadan (men's soccer),
Rachel Robb (women's lacrosse),
Yesin van der Pluijm (men's soccer), and
Pien Van Kampen (women's soccer) - who were recognized for a third time.

Shea Bayreuther (softball),
Jessica Beckner (volleyball),
Sarah Beckwith (women's lacrosse),
Hannah Behner (women's soccer),
Eryn Brown (women's lacrosse),
Lindsey Caudell (women's basketball),
Chris Cuppini (baseball),
Jill Dixon (softball),
Zoe Freke (women's tennis),
Gwenyth Gibbons (women's lacrosse),
Taylor Greenberg (women's lacrosse),
Jasmin Keller (women's soccer),
Nhan Le (men's cross country),
Romeo Luque (men's tennis),
Maddy Meyers (women's lacrosse),
Herman Ronnberg (men's tennis),
Alex Schiltz (men's tennis),
Karah Straub (softball),
Luke Surowiec (men's cross country),
Henrik Timgren (men's soccer),
Britt Verstegen (women's soccer), and
Rome Wallace (baseball) each received the award for the second consecutive year.
Women's lacrosse led the way with 12 student-athletes, while men's soccer, women's soccer and softball had nine apiece. Men's tennis added seven, while baseball had six. Men's basketball, men's cross country and women's tennis had four student-athletes each, while women's basketball and volleyball had three each. Women's golf and women's cross country had two each to earn the award.
The Academic Achievement Awards, in its 15th year, is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level. In total, there were 16,639 student-athletes from 169 institutions being recognized for the 2021-22 Academic Achievement Awards. It was the largest number of student-athletes being nominated since the award program's inception. The Peach Belt Conference had 453 student-athletes earn the Academic Achievement Award.
To receive the Academic Achievement Award, the student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college level work, and have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
