MORROW, Ga. | Jadah Waite's short jumper with six seconds remaining gave Clayton State University a 60-58 come-from-behind Peach Belt Conference women's basketball victory over Young Harris College Saturday (Feb. 5) afternoon.
Clayton State improved to 10-9 overall and 4-7 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 11-11 and 3-10. Young Harris wraps up the road trip Wednesday (Feb. 9) when they travel to Columbus, Georgia, for a 5:30 p.m. PBC contest against Columbus State University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Carly Winters, who led the Mountain Lions with 20 points, hit five three-pointers in the contest. Winters now has 169 long-distance shots in her career, tying her with Keta Robinette (2011-16). Winters has accumulated her three-pointers in just 60 games, while Robinette's career spanned 102 games.
- The game was a see-saw affair as there was eight ties and 15 lead changes.
- The Mountain Lions took their largest lead of the game - eight points (47-39) - after Winters sank a three-pointer with 56 seconds left in the third quarter. That three-pointer was the final point in an 8-0 YHC run.
- Waite gave the Lakers a 57-56 lead on a jumper with 98 seconds to play. Young Harris reclaimed the lead at 58-57 on its next possession on a Mackenzie Johnson jumper.
- After both teams missed opportunities on their next possessions, Waite connected on a short jumper in the paint to give Clayton State the lead at 59-58 with six seconds left.
- Young Harris had one last chance to win the game, but Winters' three-pointer was no good with two seconds to play.
- Johnson recorded a double double with 11 rebounds and 10 points.
- YHC outrebounded the Lakers 45-37 with Niaya White grabbing 12 rebounds to go with her nine points.
- Kalen Surles dished out 11 assists and also grabbed seven rebounds.
