Mountain Lions take 63-51 win over Saints

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College women's basketball team used a strong third quarter to pick up a 63-51 Peach Belt Conference victory over Flagler College Monday (Dec. 12) afternoon at the Harp Recreation & Commencement Center.

The matinee was part of the Education Day game the Mountain Lions host annually. YHC welcomed students from Towns County Middle School, Ranger Middle and Elementary School, and Martins Creek School.

The Mountain Lions improved to 4-3 overall and to 1-1 in the Peach Belt, while the Saints fell to 2-8 and 0-2. Young Harris returns to action this weekend with two games in Daytona Beach, Florida. Up first for the Mountain Lions will be a 1:30 p.m. meeting Friday (Dec. 16) against Saint Leo University.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Mackenzie Johnson recorded another double double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson added five assists.
  • JaMari Frederick, who sank six three-pointers, scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half.
  • Magdalene Adebanjo recorded her first career double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The points and rebounds were career highs for Adebanjo.
  • YHC used a 10-1 run to open up a 12-point lead (22-8) after Kaela Ward sank a three-pointer with 2:39 left in the first quarter.
  • Flagler trimmed the deficit to two points (28-26) at the half as the Saints outscored Flagler 14-6 in the second quarter. YHC only hit one field goal in the period.
  • YHC took control of the game as they doubled up Flagler 28-14 in the third quarter.
  • The Mountain Lions used a 9-0 run to open up an 18-point lead (56-38) after Johnson's turnaround jumper with 1:42 left in the third quarter. The closest the Saints would get the remainder of the game was 12 points.
  • Young Harris outscored Flagler 30-18 in the paint.
