SALISBURY, N.C. | Behind hot shooting from the outside, the Young Harris College men's basketball team built up a 20-point lead and held on for a 82-78 non-conference victory over North Greenville University Friday (Nov. 18) evening in the Catawba Classic held at Goodman Gym.
The Mountain Lions defeated their third Conference Carolinas opponent as YHC improved to 3-0, while the Crusaders fell to 0-3. Young Harris wraps up action at the Classic Saturday (Nov. 19) when they face Erskine College in a 5:30 p.m. tilt.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The Mountain Lions used hot shooting to build up a 15-point lead (44-29). YHC shot 56.7 percent (17-of-30) from the field and even better from long distance - 66.7 percent (8-of-12).
- Christian Schach nailed four three-pointers and scored 12 points in the opening 20 minutes, while Nate Dunlop hit three shots from downtown and added 11.
- A Schach three-pointer off a North Greenville turnover with 16:23 to play in the game gave the Mountain Lions their largest lead of the game at 20 points (55-35).
- NGU got as close as three points (81-78) with 10 seconds remaining.
- The Mountain Lions held a 31-27 advantage on the glass and scored 24 points off 13 North Greenville turnovers.
- Karl Chavis, who went 8-of-12 from the field, led the Mountain Lions with 21 points, while Dunlop added 20 more on 7-of-13 shooting (5-of-8 from 3-point range).
- Schach tallied 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting (5-of-8 from 3-point range), while Lenny Pradia also finished in double figures with 15.
- Turahn Thompson led Young Harris with eight rebounds and added seven points.
