YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Josh Petteno scored a career-high 27 points as the Young Harris College men's basketball team gained a 79-76 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday (Jan. 29) afternoon at the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.
The Mountain Lions, who snapped an 11-game losing streak, improved to 4-16 overall and 1-10 in the Peach Belt, while the Hurricanes fell to 7-11 and 3-7. Young Harris returns to action Wednesday (Feb 2.) in Greenwood, South Carolina, with a 7:30 p.m. Peach Belt tip against Lander University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- Petteno scored 27 points - including 18 points in the second half as YHC overcame a 41-33 deficit at the half. He shot 81 percent (9-of-11) from the field, hit 6-of-7 three pointers and grabbed five rebounds.
- Carl Cleveland recorded 14 points and five rebounds for the Mountain Lions, while Karl Chavis totaled 12 points and was 5-of-5 at the free throw line.
- Lenny Pradia dished out a career-high 10 assists and scored eight points.
- Georgia Southwestern's Kevin Kone, Jonathan King, and Jarrett Adderton recorded 16 points each with a combined 16 rebounds.
- The Hurricanes had their biggest lead of the night – 13 points (37-24) – with three minutes remaining in the first half after Devon Higgs hit a long three-point jumper.
- Christian Schach tied the score up at 56 with 10:13 left in the game after hitting after a hit three-pointer.
- Georgia Southwestern's Kone gave the Hurricanes the lead 70-69 with just over five minutes left on the clock after two good free throws.
- The Hurricane lead was short lived after Chavis was fouled and hit both free throws to give Young Harris a 72-70 advantage.
- Petteno gave the Mountain Lions a five-point lead 79-74 with 51 seconds left in the contest after a long three.
- As a team Young Harris shot 49.1 percent (27-of-55) from the field and was 15-of-20 from the charity stripe.
- Georgia Southwestern held a 40-28 advantage in rebounds and led 14-6 in second chance points.
