Johnson's career night leads Mountain Lions past Flagler 53-41

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Mackenzie Johnson scored a career-high 31 points as Young Harris College recorded a 53-41 Peach Belt Conference women's basketball victory over Flagler College Saturday (Jan. 15) afternoon at the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.

The Mountain Lions improved to 10-5 overall and to 2-4 in the Peach Belt, while the Saints fell to 9-7 and 3-3. Young Harris hosts Georgia College in a 7:30 p.m. PBC contest at home Wednesday (Jan. 19).

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Mountain Lions led in the game for over 37 minutes.
  • Johnson connect on 13-of-20 field goals as registered a double double with 18 rebounds.
  • Johnson was the lone YHC player in double figures.
  • Kalen Surles dished out eight assists to go with her six points.
  • Christina Nichols also grabbed  a career-high 10 rebounds as the Mountain Lions held a 48-39 le rebounding.
  • Young Harris outscored Flagler 36-14 in the paint.
  • Flagler had gotten as close as two points (34-32) late in the third quarter before the Mountain Lions took control with 10 unanswered points to open up a 44-32 lead after a Johnson putback with 8:04 to play. Johnson scored six points during the run, while Surles accounted for the other four.
