YHC finishes in 10th place at Eye Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. | The Young Harris College women's cross country team opened their 2021 season Friday (Sept. 3) evening at the Eye Opener.

The Mountain Lions return to action next Friday (Sept. 10) at the UNG Invitational in Oalkwood, Georgia.

INSIDE THE MEET RESULTS:
  • Young Harris finished in 10th place with 290 points.
  • The University of South Carolina won the 13-team race with 28 points, 43 better than Wofford College.
  • YHC was one of nine non-NCAA Division I teams in the field. Young Harris was sixth best among those schools.
  • Olivia Gilleland was the top YHC runner - 62nd place - on the 5K course at the Milliken Research Park, which will be the site of the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championship in November, with a time of 22:34.4.
  • Hannah Dupree finished in 67th place with a time of 22:50.6, while Catarina Marcko Ferreira came in 72nd with a time of 23:16.6.
  • Caroline Conner posted a time of 23:46.9 and came in 78th, while Latty Ryals finished in 82nd with a time of 23:59.7.
  • Jessica Herrera posted an effort of 26:38.2 and finished in 89th place, while Morgan Terrell finished 100th with a time of 29:52.7.
