CHARLOTTE, N.C. | The Young Harris College volleyball team open their 2021 season Friday (Sept. 3) afternoon at the Queens (N.C.) Fall Classic.
The Mountain Lions were edged 25-12, 25-22 and 25-18 in their first match to Elizabeth City State University before falling 25-8, 25-16, and 25-20 to Wingate University in the nightcap.
YHC fell to 0-2 and will wrap up play at the tournament hosted by Queens University of Charlotte with two matches Saturday (Sept. 4). The Mountain Lions will face Chowan University at 2:30 p.m. before facing the tournament hosts at 7 p.m.

- Young Harris jumped out to an early 9-2 lead over the Bulldogs in set three and led as late as 18-17 before Wingate rallied to claim the win.
- Hidalgo led YHC with five kills, while Alex Pierre collected four and Chase Vaigneur had three.
- Messler contributed 10 assists, while Truncale had four.
- Vaigneur also registered three service aces against the Bulldogs.
- Kallee McKinney had nine digs for the Mountain Lions, while Bernis and Truncale had six apiece.
