CLEVELAND, Tenn. | Young Harris College split its final two matches Friday (Sept. 17) afternoon at the Flames Invitational hosted by Lee University.
The Mountain Lions defeated Kentucky State University 25-20, 25-20, 26-28, 18-25 and 15-6 in their morning match before falling 25-11, 25-22 and 25-21 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
With the split, YHC improved to 3-9. The Mountain Lions will open their Peach Belt Conference schedule Friday (Sept. 27) as they host Flagler College at 6 p.m. in the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.

vs. Kentucky State
- The Mountain Lions are 3-1 all-time when the match goes to a fifth set. Young Harris has won its last three five-set matches.
- Lily Hidalgo led Young Harris with 13 kills, while Shelby Mullins had 12 and Alex Pierre accounted for 10. Sophie Bearden tallied eight.
- Ginger Truncale collected 25 assists, while Annie Messler had 16.
- YHC set a new program record with 19 service aces - five more than the previous mark - against the Thorobreds. Joha Bernis tallied a career-high five aces, while Kallee McKinney, Kori Still, Pierre and Mullins recorded three apiece.
- Bernis also equaled her career high with 23 digs. Truncale added 12, while Messler also finished in double figures with 11.
- Pierre recorded four assisted blocks, while Messler and Hidalgo had two each.
vs. UAH
- Hidalgo paced YHC with nine kills.
- Messler had 10 assists, wile Truncale had eight.
- Bernis led the Mountain Lions with nine digs, while McKinney had six more.
