BRISTOL, Tenn. | The Young Harris College volleyball team captured their first two wins in program history Saturday (Sept. 11) as they defeated Lees-McRae College and King (Tenn.) University - both in five sets - on the final day of the King Invitational.
The Mountain Lions took the morning match against the Bobcats by the score of 25-21,23-25, 18-25 and 15-11 before taking a 25-20, 12-25, 25-20, 19-25 and 15-13 decision over the Tornado.
Young Harris improved to 2-6 and will now open its home schedule Tuesday (Sept. 14) when the Mountain Lions hosts Emmanuel (Ga.) College in a 6 p.m. match inside the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.

vs. Lees-McRae
- The Mountain Lions sealed their first-ever win in program history on a service ace from Annie Messler to give YHC a 15-11 win in set five. It was her team-leading fourth ace of the match as YHC set a new team record with 14.
- Lily Hidalgo set a single-game high for the Mountain Lions with 16 kills, while Messler and Alex Pierre collected 10 apiece. Shelby Mullins added eight more.
- The 57 kills registered by the Mountain Lions also set a new career best as a team.
- Ginger Truncale also set a new single-game standard with 26 assists, while Messler tallied 17.
- Joha Bernis added 20 digs for YHC, while Messler and Truncale added 19 each.
vs. King (Tenn.)
- YHC recorded its second win of the day on a King attack error to give the Mountain Lions a 15-13 win in the decisive fifth set.
- Hidalgo paced the Mountain Lions with 13 kills, while Pierre posted nine.
- Truncale was one of three YHC players in double figure assists with 16. Bernis added 11, while Messler had 10.
- Bernis and Kori Still had four service aces as YHC had 13 in the match.
- Bernis set a career high with 23 digs, while Truncale had 14 and Still had 10 more.
- The Mountain Lions set a new program mark with eight total team blocks.
- Pierre set a new YHC record with five total blocks (five assisted), while Sophie Bearden had four (four assisted) and Mullins tallied three (three assisted).
