Brown's gem gives Young Harris a 7-0 win over Augusta

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Chad Brown threw a complete-game shutout as Young Harris College recorded a 7-0 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory over Augusta University Friday (April 30) evening at Zell B. Miller Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 20-16 overall and maintained fourth place in the Peach Belt, while the Jaguars fell to 8-26 and 7-24. The top four teams in the PBC after this weekend move on the conference tournament.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Brown, who improved to 6-2 for the Mountain Lions, scattered five hits and three walks while striking out eight. Brown only allowed one runner to reach third base. It was the first shutout tossed and the third complete game by a YHC pitcher this season.
  • Six of the seven runs scored by the Mountain Lions came with two outs.
  • Young Harris took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Logan Worley reached on a single and stole second before scoring on Dahlton Cash's RBI double to center. Cash later scored on the first of three Augusta errors.
  • The Mountain Lions added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to double their lead to 4-0. Brett Hawkins had a two-out single through the right side in the fourth and Noah Fitzgerald added an RBI single to center an inning later.
  • YHC closed out the scoring with a three-run sixth inning. Worley drove in the first run on a fielder's choice before Jackson Jones added a two-run single through the right side.
  • Worley, Jones and Fitzgerald had two hits each for the Mountain Lions.
