GREENWOOD, S.C. | Young Harris College swept a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader from Lander University Saturday (April 3) afternoon at Dolny Stadium.
The Mountain Lions won the opener 6-5 in 12 innings before
Tucker Greer hit two home runs and drove in five runs as Young Harris claimed the nightcap 11-7.
Young Harris improved to 18-7 overall and to 16-5 in the Peach Belt with its fourth consecutive PBC series sweep and 13th consecutive league win. The Bearcats fell to 14-15 and 10-13.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
Game 1
- Young Harris took a 3-0 lead on Jackson Jones' three-run homer to right field in the first inning. It was Jones' fourth homer of the season.
- The Mountain Lions took a 5-1 lead with two runs in the fifth. YHC scored a run on a passed ball before Dahlton Cash's RBI double down the left field line.
- Lander tied the game at 5 after scoring single runs in the fifth and ninth innings and two more in the eighth.
- YHC took a 6-5 lead in the 12th. Greer and Cash singled and Jones drew a walk to load the bases. Pinch hitter John Miller hit into a double play, but Greer scored with the go-ahead run.
- McLain Harris (4-2) earned the win with 3.1 innings of relief, while Brody Meeks earned his fourth save with a scoreless 12th inning.
Game 2
- The Mountain Lions broke the game open with a seven-run first inning. Noah Fitzgerald had a RBI double and Greer followed with a two-run homer to right-center. Kyle Ayers contributed a two-run double up the middle before Logan Worley closed out the scoring with a two-run double to right-center.
- YHC took an 8-5 lead in the seventh on Jones' run-scoring double down the right field line.
- After Lander closed to within 8-7, Greer homered over the scoreboard in right field to drive in three runs. It was Greer's team-leading 11th long ball of the season.
- Greer and Jones led YHC with three hits each.
- Greer drove in five runs while Worley and Ayers had two RBI each.
- Mark Castle (2-0) earned the win, while Levi Ayers earned the save.
