YHC clubs five homers, but Columbus State takes series finale 16-11

COLUMBUS, Ga. | Young Harris College hit five home runs, but No. 24 Columbus State University rallied for a 16-11 Peach Belt Conference baseball victory Monday (April 26) afternoon at Ragsdale Field at Burger King Stadium.

The Cougars improved to 23-11 overall and to 18-11 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 19-16 and 17-13.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • With the five long balls the Mountain Lions hit, it brings the season total to 64 homers (35 games), trailing only the 2013 team that hit 66 home runs in 48 games.
  • Young Harris took a 3-0 lead in the first. T.J. Byrd led off the inning with a home run - his third of the season - to right field. After Tucker Greer reached on a bunt single, Cash followed with a homer to right field. It was Cash's sixth long ball of 2021.
  • The Mountain Lions added a run in the second when Cash scored on a wild pitch.
  • YHC made the score 6-3 after Rome Wallace connected on a two-run homer to left field. 
  • The Mountain Lions expanded their lead to 8-3 in the fourth as Tucker Greer hit his 19th homer of the year with his solo shot to right field. Wallace added a sacrifice fly in the inning.
  • Columbus State tied the game at 8 with five runs in the bottom of the fourth. They would open up an 11-8 lead before Greer got a run back in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly.
  • Young Harris added its final two runs in the ninth as Jackson Jones and Wallace connected on a solo homers. It was the eighth homer of the season for both Wallace and Jones.
  • YHC outhit the Cougars 16-13. Cash and Wallace led the Mountain Lions with three hits apiece, while Byrd, Greer, Jones and Noah Fitzgerald had two hits each.
  • Brody Meeks (1-3) took the loss in relief.
