Long balls lead Young Harris over Lander 7-4

GREENWOOD, S.C. | Kyle Ayers and Tucker Greer each had home runs for Young Harris College as the Mountain Lions defeated Lander University 7-4 in a Peach Belt Conference baseball game Friday (April 2) evening at Dolny Stadium.

The Mountain Lions improved to 16-7 overall and 14-5 overall, while the Bearcats slipped to 14-13 and 10-11.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The win was the 11th consecutive Peach Belt victory for the Mountain Lions and 13th in their last 14 overall games.
  • Young Harris took a 1-0 lead after Cole Jackson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the second inning.
  • Kyle Ayers followed Jackson by hitting a grand slam to left field to give the Mountain Lions a 5-0 lead. It was his second homer of the season.
  • After Lander hit three solo homers in the bottom of the fifth, Young Harris expanded its lead to 7-3 after Tucker Greer hit a two-run homer to right in the seventh. It was Greer's team-leading ninth homer of 2021.
  • Chad Brown (5-1) earned the win, going five innings.
  • Brody Meeks earned his third save. Meeks struck out seven in four relief innings.
  • Greer led the Mountain Lions with two hits.
