Lee rallies for 15-14 win over Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Dariana Blanton's goal with 2:01 remaining gave Lee University a 15-14 Gulf South Conference women's lacrosser victory over Young Harris College on a cold, brisk Thursdsy (April 1) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Flames improved to 6-3 overall and to 2-0 in the GSC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 4-5 and 1-1.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • Young Harris opened up a 7-3 lead with 14:31 left in the first half as the Mountain Lions rolled off five consecutive goals. Aubrie Valvo found the net twice, while Anna Luckie, Leigh Anne Turner and Taylor Greenberg accounted for the goals.
  • YHC led 9-5 at the half, however, the Flames scored the first four goals of the second half to tie the match at 9 on a man-up goal. Lee scored five man-up goals in the match as YHC received four yellow cards.
  • YHC opened up an 11-10 lead with 17:20 left as Greenberg scored two of the next three goals.
  • The Flames scored the next four goals to open up a 14-11 lead with 10:01 remaining.
  • Young Harris tied the match at 14 with 3:15 to go as they scored three goals in a 90-second span. Valvo, Kinsley Purser and Belle Hardwick tallied the goals.
  • Lee outshot Young Harris 32-20, including a 21-8 margin in the second half.
  • The Flames outscooped the Mountain Lions 18-14 in ground balls, while Young Harris had an 18-12 margin in draw controls.
  • Greenberg led YHC with four goals, while Valvo accounted for three. Purser and Turner had two, while Luckie, Sierra Haas and Hardwick had one apiece.
  • Luckie collected four assists, while Haas, Ella Hancock, Hardwick, Purser and Turner had one.
  • Valvo won 10 draw controls, while Greenberg had five and Hardwick posted three.
  • Valvo scooped up four ground balls, while Maddy Meyers, Gwenyth Gibbons, Sarah Beckwith and Purser had two each.
  • Eryn Brown led the Mountain Lions with three caused turnovers.
  • Meyers recorded 13 saves in the YHC goal.
