Mountain Lions walk past Mars Hill 24-5

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College won its 12th game in the past 13 as the Mountain Lions defeated Mars Hill University 24-5 Tuesday (March 30) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.

The Mountain Lions, who are ranked ninth in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association's NCAA Division II Southeast Region poll, improved to 15-7, while the Lions fell to 12-13.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Mountain Lions took advantage of 11 walks, six hit batters and five wild pitches issued by the Mars Hill pitching staff.
  • Young Harris scored in every inning but two (third and sixth).
  • The Mountain Lions opened up a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first on just one hit.
  • Kyle Ayers had a two-run double in the second.
  • Cole Jackson stroked a three-run homer to right-center field in the fifth, while Tucker Greer added a solo homer to right.
  • Steven Spell added a two-run homer off the scoreboard in right-center field in the eighth.
  • Jackson drove in four runs, while Greer and Spell knocked in three each. Dawson Barnes and Ayers had two RBI apiece.
  • Jackson and Brandon Jolliff led the 13-hit attack with two hits each.
  • Mark Castle (1-0) earned the win.
