Mountain Lions hold off Bears 20-17

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. |  Aubrie Valvo scored four goals as Young Harris College held off Lenoir-Rhyne University 20-17 in a non-conference women's lacrosse match Friday (March 12) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 3-3, while the Bears dropped to 2-2.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Mountain Lions only trailed twice in the opening minutes of the game.
  • YHC took control of the match as they scored five unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead after Sierra Haas scored midway through the opening half. The Mountain Lions never trailed after that point.
  • Valvo led YHC with four goals, while Haas, Ella Hancock and Leigh Anne Turner each put three goals in the back of the net. Anna Luckie and Ryann Haly added two goals each, while Taylor Greenberg, Kelsey Dover and Grace Barr had one apiece.
  • Haas and Belle Hardwick had two assists each for the Mountain Lions, while Hancock, Luckie and Ruthie Mandell had one each.
  • Young Harris dominated the Bears in draw controls 29-10 and held a 39-28 edge in shots. Lenoir-Rhyne led YHC in ground balls 24-22.
  • Valvo recorded more draw controls (11) than the Bears had as a team (10). Hancock recorded seven draw controls, while Hardwick had six.
  • Eryn Brown paced the Mountain Lions with five ground balls, while Greenberg scooped up three.
  • Turner led YHC with three caused turnovers, while Gwenyth Gibbons and Haas had two each.
  • Maddy Meyers had eight saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
