YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Jenn Smith scored six goals as Belmont Abbey College spoiled the home opener for the Young Harris College women's lacrosse team as the Crusaders picked up an 18-11 decision Saturday (Feb. 20) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Crusaders improved to 1-1, while the Mountain Lions fell to 0-2.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

• Young Harris jumped out to a 5-3 lead after a Taylor Greenberg goal with 20:57 left in the first half. Greenberg and Aubrie Valvo each scored twice during the opening run.
• The Crusaders responded by scored the next eight goals to open up an 11-5 lead with 3:41 left before halftime.
• The Mountain Lions scored the final two goals of the first half and added the first goal of the second half to pull within three goals (11-8) after a Belle Hardwick strike with 29:13 to play. It was the closest YHC would get the rest of the game.
• Young Harris held a 20-11 lead in draw controls, while Belmont Abbey outshot YHC 36-35 and held a 32-16 edge in ground balls.
• Valvo and Greenberg led YHC with four goals, while Emily Flynt, Hardwick and Kinsley Purser accounted for a goal each.
• Five different Mountain Lions had one assist apiece.
• Valvo had more draw controls (12)  than Belmont Abbey had as a team (11). Greenberg and Ella Hancock had three apiece.
• Valvo scooped up five ground balls, while Maddy Meyers had three.
• Anna Luckie and Valvo caused two turnovers for YHC.
• Meyers had 14 saves in net for the Mountain Lions.
