Winters, White lead Mountain Lions past Bobcats 75-59

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Carly Winters and Niaya White combined for 37 points and 14 rebounds as the Young Harris College women's basketball team defeated Georgia College 75-59 in a Peach Belt Conference contest Wednesday (Feb. 17) evening at the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.

The Mountain Lions improved to 4-6 overall and to 4-6 in the PBC, while the Bobcats fell to 1-11 and 1-11.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Mountain Lions used a 10-2 run to open up a 13-6 lead with 4:02 left in the first quarter after a layup by White,
  • Georgia College tied the game at 16 after an old-fashioned three-point play by Christen Copeland at the end of the first quarter.
  • YHC used a 13-5 run at the end of the second quarter to open up a 37-28 halftime lead. White accounted for seven points during the run.
  • Young Harris used an 8-0 run to take an 18-point lead (52-34) with 3:33 left in the third quarter after a layup by Thalia Carter, who had five points during the run.
  • Georgia College trimmed the deficit to six points (63-57) after a Harper Vick layup with 4:56 left in the contest.
  • YHC thwarted the GC rally as they closed the game on a 13-2 run. WInters, who sank back-to-back three-pointers during the run, accounted for eight of the points for the Mountain Lions.
  • Young Harris held a 46-44 edge in rebounding.
  • The Mountain Lions connected on 12 three-pointers.
  • YHC committed a season-low 12 turnovers.
  • Winters led the Mountain Lions with 20 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including 5-of-10 from long distance. Winters also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists.
  • White, who shot 7-of-12 from the field, finished with 17 points and seven rebounds.
  • Carter added 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Lindsey Caudell also finished in double figures (10).
  • Vick led Georgia College with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Jada Warren added 12 points and eight rebounds.
