McKendree spoils season opener for the Mountain Lions

CLEVELAND, Tenn. | Kathryn Albrecht scored six goals to lead McKendree University past Young Harris College 17-8 in a non-conference women's lacrosse match Sunday (Feb. 14) afternoon at Cleveland High School.

The Bearcats improved to 2-0, while the Mountain Lions dropped their season opener and fell to 0-1.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • McKendree scored the games first four goals, including two by Albrecht.
  • Young Harris scored three of the next four goals to pull within 5-3 with 13:43  left in the first half. Taylor Greenberg scored twice and Leigh Anne Turner added the other.
  • The Bearcats then held the Mountain Lions scoreless as they scored five unanswered goals to take a 10-3 lead at the half.
  • The Mountain Lions opened the second half by scoring five of the first seven goals to pull within four goals at 12-8 with 12:33 to play. Greenberg accounted for four scores and Aubrie Valvo added the other strike.
  • McKendree then ended the second half with five unanswered goals.
  • Greenberg led the Mountain Lions with six scores, while Valvo and Turner added one each.
  • Belle Hardwick and Anna Luckie each recorded an assist for the Mountain Lions.
  • Greenberg led YHC with four draw controls, while Valvo and Ella Hancock had three apiece.
  • Rachel Robb scooped up three ground balls and Turner added two for Young Harris.
  • Robb recorded 11 saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.
  • McKendree outshot Young Harris 37-19 and held a 20-14 edge in ground balls.
  • Young Harris held a 14-12 margin in draw controls.
