No. 16 North Georgia defeats Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Julianne Sutton scored 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead No. 16 University of North Georgia past Young Harris College 83-63 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday (Feb. 13) afternoon at the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.

The Nighthawks improved to 12-1 overall and to 9-1 in the league, while the Mountain Lions fell to 83-63.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • North Georgia used a 15-4 run midway through the first quarter to open up a 16-7 lead after two Lacie McCoy free throws with 3:03 left.
  • The Nighthawks scored 21 points off 19 YHC turnovers and outscored their Blood Mountain rivals 40-23 in the paint.
  • Young Harris (43.1 percent - 22-of-51) outshot North Georgia (41.7 percent - 30-of-72) from the floor.
  • North Georgia outrebounded Young Harris 41-35 on the glass, including a 16-6 margin on the offensive boards.
  • The Nighthawks dished out 24 assists on 30 buckets.
  • Niaya White, who was 8-of-13 from the floor, led the Mountain Lions with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
  • Kalen Surles tossed in 13 points for YHC on 6-of- 9 shooting, scored 13 points and dished out three assists.
  • Thalia Carter scored a career-high 12 points for Young Harris. She was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
  • Lindsey Caudell added 10 points for Young Harris.
  • Mackenzie Johnson added seven points, six rebounds and three steals.
  • In addition to Sutton, McCoy (15), Caroline Martin (13) and Abby Hubert (12) also finished in double figures for the Nighthawks.
