Hurricanes use strong second half in 67-52 win over Mountain Lions

AMERICUS, Ga. | Georgia Southwestern State University used a 28-6 run in the second half to give the Hurricanes a 67-52 Peach Belt Conference women's basketball victory over Young Harris College Wednesday (Feb. 10) evening at the Storm Dome.

The Hurricanes improved to 6-4 overall and to 4-3 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 3-5 and 3-5.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
  • The Mountain Lions used a 9-2 run to tied the game at 37 after Thalia Carter jump shot with 4:24 left in the third quarter.
  • Georgia Southwestern State closed out the third quarter on a 14-4 run to take a 51-41 lead. The Hurricanes started the fourth quarter on a 14-2 run to open up a 65-43 lead on Daelyn Craig layup with 4:37 left in the contest.
  • The closest Young Harris would get the rest of the way was 13 points (65-52) with 1:51 to play.
  • The Hurricanes scored 22 points off 25 Young Harris turnovers.
  • GSW outscored YHC 40-18 in the paint and held a 36-34 margin in rebounding.
  • Mackenzie Johnson led the Mountain Lions with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor. Johnson also paced Young Harris with nine rebounds.
  • Lindsey Caudell (12) and Carly Winters (11) also finished in double figures.
  • Lex Chatman led GSW with 23 points and seven rebounds, while Craig tallied 18 points.
