YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College women's basketball team outscored Emory & Henry College 20-2 in the fourth quarter as the Mountain Lions rallied for a 61-48 non-conference victory Saturday (Nov. 27) afternoon at the YHC Recreation and Fitness Center.
The Mountain Lions improved to 6-0, while the Wasps fell to 3-2. Young Harris will travel to Jacksonville, Alabama, for a 6 p.m. Central time exhibition contest Tuesday (Nov. 30) against NCAA Division I's Jacksonville State University.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The 6-0 start for the Mountain Lions is the best in the history of the program. The 2012-13 team had the previous best start as the open that campaign by winning their first five games.
- After Alexis Hoppers' layup gave the Wasps a 44-39 lead with 46 seconds left in the third quarter, the Mountain Lions reeled off 16 unanswered points over the next six minutes to take a 55-44 lead after Carly Winters sank a three-pointer with 4:40 left in the game. Winters and Mackenzie Johnson had six points apiece during the decisive run.
- Brylee Jones got the only points for Emory & Henry in the final stanza on a layup with 3:59 to go, before YHC scored the final six points of the game.
- Winters led Young Harris with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-10 from long distance.
- Johnson finished with 16 points, also on 7-of-12 shooting, and grabbed seven rebounds.
- Niaya White added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Kalen Surles posted eight points, seven rebounds and five assists.
- The Mountain Lions scored 25 points off 22 turnovers by the Wasps.
- YHC outscored Emory & Henry 36-18 in the paint.
