INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. | The Young Harris College men's soccer team remained No. 1 in the third release of the NCAA Division II regional rankings.
Men's soccer is the first Young Harris program to be ranked in the NCAA regional rankings this year in their respective sport.
The final selection by the NCAA for regional play will be Monday (Nov. 15) at 6:30 p.m. Super Region 2 consists of teams from the Peach Belt, Gulf South, South Atlantic and Sunshine State conferences as well as Conference Carolinas.
YHC, which is ranked No. 1 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Coaches Poll with a 15-0-1 mark, is the lone Peach Belt team listed in the regional ranking.
Palm Beach Atlantic University (13-1-0) is ranked No. 2 and is followed by the University of West Florida (10-3-2), University of Tampa (12-2-0), Auburn University Montgomery (10-3-2) in positions 3-5. Limestone University (10-4-1) is ranked sixth, while Anderson (S.C.) University (12-3-2) is seventh and Lynn University (11-3-0) is eighth. University of Montevallo (13-3-2) , Lenoir-Rhyne University (10-5-1), Chowan University (11-3-1) and Lee University (12-4-1) round out the rankings in positions 9-12.
The NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship, which will begin on Nov. 18 or Nov. 19 on campus sites, provides for a 40-team, single elimination tournament. Ten teams will be chosen from each of the four super regions. In the Super 2 region, the winners from the Peach Belt, Sunshine State, Gulf South, South Atlantic and Conference Carolinas tournaments earn automatic berths while the other five teams will be at-large selections. The 2021 national champion will be crowned Dec. 11 at Switchbacks Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The Mountain Lions will return to action this weekend at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament being played at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Georgia. Young Harris is the tournament's No. 1 seed after clinching its sixth PBC crown in program history and will face No. 4 seed Flagler College in an 11 a.m. semifinal match Friday (Nov. 12). The Saints advanced to the semifinals after defeated Georgia Southwestern State University 3-0 in the first round.
The winner between Flagler and Young Harris advances to Sunday's (Nov. 14) noon championship match where they will face the winner of Friday's other semifinal match between No. 3 seed Lander University and No. 2 Clayton State University.
