YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Mollie Kaplan scored six goals as Florida Tech rallied for a 17-10 women's lacrosse victory over Young Harris College on a frigid Friday (Feb. 28) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
The Panthers improved to 3-0, while the Mountain Lions fell to 1-3. YHC will host the University of Virginia's College at Wise Sunday (March 1) at noon.
Aubrie Valvo scored twice, while
Leigh Anne Turner and
Mary Deatrick each found the back of the net as the Mountain Lions took a 4-1 lead with 15:52 remaining. Florida Tech tied the match at 5 with 11:12 remaining on a Morgan Leonard strike. The Panthers took control of the match as they eight of the next nine goals to open up a 13-6 lead with 16:43 left.
Turner,
Sierra Haas and
Taylor Greenberg scored back-to-back-to-back goals to pull the Mountain Lions within four goals (13-9) with 6:21 to play.
Haas led YHC with three goals, while Valvo and Turner had two goals each. Deatrick, Greenberg and
Ansley Coles had one goal apiece.
Anna Luckie had two assists, while Deatrick, Haas,
Channing Milford and Valvo had one each.
Kelsey Dover led the Mountain Lions with three ground balls, while Valvo, Deatrick and Luckie each had two. Deatrick claimed five draw controls while Milford and Dover tallied four apiece. Goalie
Maddy Meyers had 14 saves in net for the Mountain Lions.
