GREENEVILLE, Tenn. | Fuzzy Furr drove in five runs as Tusculum University recorded a 16-6 non-conference baseball victory over No. 33-ranked Young Harris College Wednesday (Feb. 19) afternoon at Pioneer Park.
The Pioneers improved to 9-4 overall, while the Mountain Lions fell to 6-2. Young Harris opens Peach Belt Conference play Saturday (Feb. 22) with a 1 p.m. doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Georgia.
Young Harris took a 1-0 lead on
Oscar Serratos' first-inning double down the left field line. Tusculum took control of the game in the second inning as they scored six times, including a two-run single by Furr.
The Pioneers added a run in the third before YHC got a run back in the fourth.
Jackson Jones tripled down the right field line before
Dahlton Cash hit a sacrifice fly to center.
Tusculum added a run in the fouth before the Mountain Lions pushed across three runs in the fifth to close the gap to 8-5.
Brett Hawkins added an RBI single while
Logan Worley and
Tucker Greer drove in runs on ground outs.Â
The Mountain Lions added a RBI double in the seventh to right by Serratos that scored Worley, who had doubled down the right field line.
Trent Collins (1-0) earned the win, while
Cole Edwards (0-1) took the loss.
Serratos led the Mountain Lions with two hits, while Worley, Jones, Cash and Hawkins had one each.
