No. 33 Mountain Lions sweep doubleheader from Golden Rams

ALBANY, Ga. | The 33-ranked Young Harris College baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from Albany State University Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon at Golden Rams FIeld.

The Mountain Lions improved to 6-1 as they defeated the Golden Rams (5-4) 10-2 in the opener before winning the nightcap 1-0. Young Harris returns to action Tuesday (Feb. 18) with a 4 p.m. contest against Tusculum University in Greeneville, Tenn.

In the second game, Young Harris and Albany State traded zeros through seven innings in a pitcher's duel. Kyle Turner (1-1) allowed just three hits and struck out five over seven innings for the Mountain Lions. 

Young Harris got the offense they needed in the top of the eighth inning against reliever Michael Reddick, Bailey Campbell started the rally with a walk. Kyle Ayers, who pinch ran for Campbell, moved to second on a passed ball before scoring on Logan Worley's two-out double to center field. Worley had three of the five hits for YHC in the game.

McLain Harris earned his fourth save of the season with a scoreless eighth inning. Harris started the inning by recording two strikeouts, before the Golden Rams loaded the bases on three singles. Harris secured the victory by getting the final out on a swinging strike three.

The Mountain Lions used 12 hits to win the opener.

Young Harris took a 2-0 lead in the fifth. John Miller led off with a double to left field before Brett Hawkins homered. The Mountain Lions broke open the game with a five-run seventh inning. Tucker Greer had a two-run double to right field and Oscar Serratos added his third homer - a two-run shot - to give YHC a 7-0 lead. 

Young Harris added three runs in the ninth. Dahlton Cash drove in two runs with a single to center field and Worley added an RBI single to left.

Mat Szabo (2-0) surrendered just three hits as he struck out 13 in 6 1/3 innings of work for the Mountain Lions.

Greer and Hawkins had two hits apiece for Young Harris. Cole Jackson also smacked a double for YHC.
