No. 33 Mountain Lions open weekend series with 3-2 win over Albany State

ALBANY, Ga. | Drew Wilson pitched six shutout innings as the 33rd-ranked Young Harris College baseball team defeated Albany State University 3-2 in a non-conference baseball game Friday (Feb. 14) evening at Golden Rams Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 4-1, while the Golden Rams fell to 4-2. The two teams play the middle game of their weekend series Saturday (Feb. 15) at 2 p.m.

Wilson (2-0) allowed just five hits over six innings and struck out eight for the Mountain Lions.

YHC opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth. Brett Hawkins and T.J. Byrd were hit by pitches in consecutive at-bats and later came around to score when Tucker Greer reached on a three-base error by the Albany State left fielder.

The Mountain Lions extended their lead to 3-0 in the seventh. Paul Salata led off with a double to right field and Logan Worley, who was pinch running for Salata, scored on Byrd's two-out single to left.

Albany State got two unearned back in the eighth inning to pull within a run at 3-2, but reliever McLain Harris notched his third save of 2020 with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless work.

Jackson Jones and Dahlton Cash led the eight-hit attack with two hits apiece. Cash had a double to right field in the second inning.
