Greenberg leads Young Harris past Mars Hill 20-14

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Taylor Greenberg scored six times as Young Harris College picked up a 20-14 season-opening women's lacrosse victory over Mars Hill University Tuesday (Feb. 11) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 1-0, while the Lions fell to 1-2. Young Harris returns to action Friday (Feb. 14) with a 4 p.m. home match against No. 8 Florida Southern College.

Young Harris jumped out to a 5-0 lead with 25:03 left in the first half as Greenberg and Leigh Anne Turner each scored twice and Ansley Coles added the other goal. The Mountain Lions expanded their lead to 8-1 after Mary Deatrick scored a man-down goal on a free-position shot with 13:38 remaining.

Mars Hill closed to within two goals at 10-8, but the Mountain Lions responded scored four unanswered goals - Greenberg scored twice, while Deatrick and Sierra Hass each tallied one- to open up a 14-8 lead with 27:32 left in the second half.  The closest the Lions would get the rest of the way would be four goals (16-12).

Deatrick finished with four goals for YHC, while Aubrie Valvo and Turner added three each. Coles and Haas each finished with two apiece. Anna Luckie led the Mountain Lions with four assists, while Coles added three. Channing Milford posted two assists, while Deatrick amd Valvo had one each.

Young Harris collected 22 ground balls with Anna Luckie and Maddy Meyers scooping up four each. Maddison Larrimore and Gwenyth Gibbons grabbed three apiece.

Deatrick also claimed eight of the 22 draw controls the Mountain Lions won. Greenberg picked up six draw controls while Milford had five and Valvo had three.

Meyers collected 13 saves in the YHC net, while Rachel Robb had six.
