YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College men's golf team is ranked 12th in the first Golfstat NCAA Division II rankings of the season.
The Mountain Lions, who are one of five Peach Belt Conference schools inside the top 25. Young Harris has averaged 290 in five rounds this fall has a 15-3 overall record (.833 winning percentage). The Mountain Lions finished in the top three in both of their events this fall. YHC finished in third place at the Camden Collegiate in October and posted a second-place effort earlier this month at the Full Moon BBQ Invitational. YHC golfers had a 73.20 adjusted scoring average this fall and the Mountain Lions were 3-5 against teams in the top 25.
"Very proud of how the men persevered through all that was thrown at us this fall to obtain such a good ranking," said YHC Director of Golf
Eric Quinn. "Both myself and the whole team can't wait until the spring to improve on everything we did this fall plus show everyone what we have got."Â
Individually the Mountain Lions have four golfers ranked inside the top 100 in NCAA Division II.
Tobias Jonsson is ranked 21st, while
Martin Kjellser is 72nd,
Peter Chung is 92nd and
John Lichtenwalner is 100th.Â
Jonsson, a freshman from Huddinge, Sweden, has finished in the top 10 in both tournaments this fall. He compiled a 71.4 stroke average in five round with a 97-11 overall record (.898). Jonsson has a 72.1 adjusted scoring average with a 19-7 ledger against golfers inside the top 100.
Kjellser, a freshman from Stockholm, Sweden, has a top-10 effort this fall while posting a 72.4 stroke average. Kjellser, who has an 86-22 record (.796) this fall, has a 73.1 adjusted stroke average with a 10-16 mark against the top 100.
Chung, a junior from Dacula, Georgia, has a 73.0 stroke average this fall. Chung has a 79-29 record (.731). Chung had a 73.7 adjusted scoring average and has six wins against the top 100 golfers.
Lichtenwalner, a junior from Cumming, Georgia, had a 73.2 stroke average and a 79-30 (.722) winning percentage this fall with one top-10 finish. Lichtenwalner had a 73.9 adjusted stroke average and has posted three wins against the top 100 golfers.
