YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Two hundred twenty-six Young Harris College student-athletes were recognized at halftime of the University of North Georgia men's basketball game Jan. 29 for having a 3.0 grade-point average or higher during the Fall 2019 semester.
"We are extremely proud of our student-athletes for their commitment to their academic achievements," said Director of Athletics
Jennifer Rushton. "They do an outstanding job of balancing the demands of being a student-athlete. Congratulations to our 226 student-athletes on this accomplishment!"
The 226 student-athletes represent 55 percent of the overall student-athlete population at Young Harris. Softball had the highest female team GPA at 3.60, while men's tennis had the highest male team GPA at 3.38. Women's golf, women's basketball, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, men's cross country and men's lacrosse all posted team GPAs above a 3.0.
The Mountain Lions also had 27 student-athletes who received a perfect 4.0 for the Fall 2018 semester. They are Mikayla Escamilla (cheerleading), Max Moser (cheerleading), McKenna Lentych (women's basketball), Samantha Russell (women's basketball), Logan Ehorn (baseball), Noah Noonan (baseball), Mat Szabo (baseball), Hannah Walker (women's golf), Emma Andersson (women's golf), Jing Dong (women's tennis), John Lichtenwalner (men's golf), Hayden Tucker (men's soccer), Garrett Ellis (men's soccer), Taylor Greenberg (women's lacrosse), Maddy Meyers (women's lacrosse), Leigh Anne Turner (women's lacrosse), Kennedy Kotula (softball), Makenna Mellott (softball), Biz Walters (softball), Bobby de Luna (men's lacrosse), Romeo Luque (men's tennis), Hannah Espelin-Rolfsen (women's soccer), Luke Surowiec (men's cross country) and Ashley Sweeney (women's cross country).
