USC Aiken defeats Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Kwajelin Farrar had 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead the University of South Carolina-Aiken past Young Harris College 80-62 in a Peach Belt Conference women's basketball game Saturday (Jan. 18) afternoon at the YHC Basketball Arena.

The Pacers improved to 10-6 overall and to 5-3 in the Peach Belt, while the Mountain Lions fell to 9-6 and 3-4. Young Harris returns to action with a 1:30 p.m. PBC contest against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida, Monday (Jan. 20).

Young Harris used an 11-0 run late in the first quarter to open up a 22-13 lead after a Jada Griffin putback with 1:01 left in the period. Carly Winters sandwiched three-pointers around Bria Clemmons' three-pointer during the run. The Pacers battled back and took the lead for good at 36-33 after Alex Canady hit a three pointer with 1:56 to play before the half.

The Pacers used a 9-1 run to end the third quarter to take a 56-47 lead and expanded their lead to 16 points (67-51) after Canady hit a three-pointer with 4:46 to go. The closest the Mountain Lions would get the rest of the way would be 11 points.

Canady added 19 points for the Pacers, while Alexis Mack added 18 points and seven rebounds.

Winters led the Mountain Lions with a career-high 18 points, while Niaya White added 10 points. Sarah Woghiren and Clemmons each added nine points. Woghiren led Young Harris with nine rebounds.
