Seniors shine as Mountain Lions record 24-4 GSC win over Montevallo

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The seniors for the Young Harris College women's lacrosse team shined as the Mountain Lions easily defeated the University of Montevallo 24-4  in a Gulf South Conference match Saturday (April 6) at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions, who recognized their six seniors - Maddie Peek, Kirsten Barth, Hannah Sacristan, Hayley Bartlett, Erika Cross and manager Lexi Hooper - prior to the match, improved to 7-5 overall and to 4-1 in the league. The Falcons fell to 5-7 and 2-3. Young Harris returns to action Sunday (April 7) with a 2 p.m. GSC home match against league leader University of Alabama in Huntsville. UAH edged Young Harris 13-12 last month in Huntsville.

The Mountain Lions took control of the match by scoring the first eight goals and never looked back.

Bartlett set a new YHC standard with 12 points in the game as she led the Mountain Lions with seven goals and five assists. The five assists each by Bartlett and Cross tied the Young Harris single-game record.

Anna Luckie added four goals, while Mary Deatrick and Leigh Anne Turner each tallied three. Peek and Cross had two goals apiece, while Sierra Haas, Channing Milford and Barth had one each. Deatrick and Turner also distributed two assists.

Cross led the Mountain Lion defense with six ground balls, while Bartlett corraled five. Cross tallied seven draw controls, while Deatrick added six and Barth posted two more.  Cross also caused four turnovers, while Sacristan and Bartlett dislodged two more. Rachel Robb recorded seven saves in goal for Young Harris.
