YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College men's tennis team celebrated Senior Day by registering a 6-1 Peach Belt Conference victory over Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday (April 6) afternoon at the Bob and Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Mountain Lions, who recognized senior
Javier Villar prior to the match, improved to 1-10 overall and to 1-5 in the Peach Belt, while the Hurricanes fell to 4-13 and 0-6. Young Harris returns to action Sunday (April 7) at noon when they host No. 2 Columbus State University in a noon match.
The Mountain Lions took a 1-0 lead as they took the doubles point after winning two of the three matches. YHC clinched the point when
Ignacio Ascarrunz and
Kash Reddiyar, which is ranked No. 34 in Division II doubles, earned a 7-6 (1) win at No. 1.
Young Harris defeated the Hurricanes as they registered victories in the first four completed singles - all in straight sets - by
Herman Ronnberg (No. 6), Villar (1), Reddiyar (No. 3) and Ascarrunz (No. 2).
