Young Harris clips Hawks 24-3 on Senior Day

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Cody Bielec scored a school-record nine goals as the Young Harris College men's lacrosse team easily defeated Shorter University 24-3 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference match on Senior Day Saturday (April 6) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions, who recognized seniors Garrett Blake, Mason King, Bruce Silk, Bevan Pate and Kyle Beverly prior to the match, improved to 6-5 overall and to 2-2 in the league, while the Hawks remained winless in 11 matches (3 in the GLVC). Young Harris hosts the University of Montevallo in a 1 p.m. GLVC match next Saturday (April 13).

Young Harris scored the game's first eight goals - including three by Bielec, who has 34 goals for the Mountain Lions - and never were seriously challenged.

Jimmy Johnston added five scores, while Duncan Jackson added three more. Silk and Beau Henson each tallied two goals, while Jimmy Martelli, Pate and Patrick Phelan each found the back of the net once for the Mountain Lions, who outshot the Hawks 62-26 (49-19 on goal).

Bielec also led the Mountain Lions with five assists, while Silk had four more. Daniel Zimny, Johnston, and Martelli had three assists apiece, while Harrison Wiggins, and Ryley Zopfi had an assist each as 20 of the 24 goals scored by the Mountain Lions were assisted.

Young Harris had a season high 24 face-off wins against the Hawks. Parker Lamarque had 12 wins, while Eric Lemire added 10 more. Lamarque had 10 ground balls, while Lemire had six and Alex Venturino collected four.

King (nine) and Steve Hunt (seven) combined to stop 16 shots in goal for the Mountain Lions.
