Mountain Lions clinch share of fourth consecutive GSC title with 19-4 win over Montevallo

CARROLLTON, Ga. | Hayley Bartlett scored five goals and Leigh Anne Turner added four more as Young Harris College clinched a share of their fourth consecutive Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse title as they easily defeated the University of Montevallo 19-4 Saturday (April 20) afternoon at Carrollton High School.

The Mountain Lions wrapped up the regular season with a 10-6 record and finished 7-1 in the league to share the title with the University of Alabama in Huntsville. By virtue of the No. 1 seed, Young Harris will host the GSC Invitational Tournament next weekend and will look to claim their fourth consecutive tournament title. Montevallo fell to 6-9 and 3-5.

Young Harris raced out to a 7-0 lead with 14:44 remaining in the first half and never looked back. Bartlett deposited three of her goals during that run, while Anna Luckie, Maddie Peek, Erika Cross and Sierra Haas each registered a goal.

Young Harris outshot Montevallo 33-12 (27-10 on goal) and had a 19-5 margin on draw controls. The Mountain Lions also head a 22-21 edge in ground balls.

Cross finished with three goals for Young Harris, while Luckie and Channing Milford had two apiece. Taylor Greenberg, Peek and Haas found the back of the net once. Cross led the Mountain Lions with three assists, while Luckie and Bartlett registered two each. Mary Deatrick and Milford also dished out an assist.

Kirsten Barth led the way for YHC with five draw controls, while Luckie had four. Cross and Greenberg had three draw controls. Kelsey Dover and Deatrick paced the Mountain Lions with four ground balls, while Hannah Sacristan and Rachel Robb scooped up three apiece. Dover also caused three turnovers and Barth had two, Robb registered six saves in the the YHC goal.
