Mountain Lions smother Flames 21-5

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | The Young Harris College scored the first 10 goals of the match as they easily defeated Lee University 21-5 in a Gulf South Conference women's lacrosse match Wednesday (April 17) afternoon at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 9-6 overall and remain in a first place tie in the GSC at 6-1, while the Flames ended their season at 4-12 and 1-7. Young Harris concludes the regular season with a 2 p.m. GSC makeup contest against the University of Montevallo Saturday (April 20) in Carrollton, Georgia. The match will be played at Carrollton High School.

Young Harris held the Flames scoreless for the first 20 minutes as the Mountain Lions scored 10 goals. YHC got three goals from Erika Cross and two each from Mary Deatrick and Taylor Greenberg during the decisive run.

The Mountain Lions held a 36-23 advantage in shots and a 17-9 margin in draw controls. Each team scooped up 15 ground balls. 

Hayley Bartlett and Greenberg led the Mountain Lions with four goals apiece, while Cross, Anna Luckie and Deatrick scored three goals each. Leigh Anne Turner, Maddie Peek, Channing Milford and Ansley Coles each found the back of the net once. Cross dished out four assists for Young Harris, while Bartlett and Luckie had two each. Kelsey Dover, Peek and Turner had one each.

Kirsten Barth led YHC with six draw controls, while Deatrick had five and Turner had three. Cross and Eryn Brown each accounted for three ground balls, while Hannah Sacristan corralled two. 

Rachel Robb recorded 12 saves in net for the Mountain Lions.
