Mountain Lions complete sweep of Augusta on Senior Day

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga.  |  Young Harris College swept Augusta College in a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader to complete the series sweep Saturday (April 13) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field. 

The Mountain Lions opened up to a 9-4 game one victory before taking the nightcap 8-5. Young Harris improved to 28-13 overall and 14-8 in the PBC, while the Jaguars fell to 17-24 and 6-20. The Mountain Lions travel to Central, South Carolina, for a 6 p.m. matchup against Southern Wesleyan University Tuesday (April 16) at Dr. C. Keith Connor Field. 

The 28 wins so far this season ties for second most in the YHC NCAA era with the 2011 season. The 14 PBC wins is one shy of last season's conference record (15).

Dahlton Cash tied the game at one in the bottom of the second in game one for YHC with a solo shot, his second home run of the season, to left field. Corley Reynolds gave the Mountain Lions a 2-1 lead with a RBI ground out to shortstop that scored Tyler Washington. Tucker Greer came around to score on a wild pitch in the third inning to make it a 3-1 lead. 

The Mountain Lions added two runs in the fifth and sixth innings and one in each the seventh and eighth. 

Dylan Gibeau (6-2) picked up the win for Young Harris as he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with five walks and eight strikeouts in seven innings pitched. 

Washington collected a hit, two RBI, and a run scored, while Cash went 2-for-4 with a RBI and three runs scored. Zavier Lushington had a hit, one RBI, and a run scored. Jackson tallied a hit and a RBI, while Greer went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

John Micah Law (1-2) earned the loss for the Jaguars as he gave up three runs on four hits with three walks and one strikeout in 2.2 innings pitched.

The Mountain Lions scored six of their eight runs in the second inning of game two that started after Jackson scored on a wild pitch. Reynolds gave YHC the lead with a single through the left side that scored Washington. Greer, Brett Hawkins, and Cash each picked up a RBI in the inning. 

Ethan Underwood made it an 8-3 game in the bottom of the seventh with a two RBI double to left field. 

Drew Wilson (3-3) picked up the win for the Mountain Lions as he gave up five runs (one unearned) on eight hits with one walk and nine strikeouts in seven innings pitched. Matt Rogers picked up his third save of the season as he struck out two in one inning of relief.

Underwood tallied one hit, two RBI, and a run scored, while Reynolds had one hit, one RBI, and a run scored. Hawkins collected two hits and a RBI, Greer had one RBI and a run scored, and Cash had one RBI. Jackson had a hit and two runs scored, Washington had a hit and a run scored, while Tristin Smith scored two runs.

Tony Jones (4-3) earned the loss for Augusta as he gave up six runs on three hits with four walks in one inning pitched.
