YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. | Young Harris College defeated Carson-Newman University 8-0 in a non-conference baseball game Tuesday (March 5) afternoon at Zell B. Miller Field.
The Mountain Lions improved to 12-7, while the Eagles fell to 16-4. Young Harris hosts the University of Southern Indiana Wednesday (March 6) at 2 p.m.
Corley Reynolds opened up the scoring for the Mountain Lions in the fifth inning with a double to left field that scored
Cole Jackson.
Tucker Greer and
Brett Hawkins reach on back-to-back infield singles to extend the YHC lead to 3-0. Two more runs came across after
Zavier Lushington reached on an error.
Jackson drew a bases-loaded walk before
Tristin Smith was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it a 7-0 lead for the Mountain Lions. Reynolds concluded the eight-run fifth inning with a single down the right field line that scored
Bailey Campbell.
Carson-Newman tallied three runs in the seventh and ninth innings but fell short with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth.
Jake Tomelevage (2-0) picked up the win for Young Harris as pitched three innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit and one walk.
Reynolds tallied two hits, two RBI, and a run scored. Campbell went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Hawkins had two hits, one RBI, and a run scored. Greer, Lushington, Jackson, and Smith each recorded one hit, one RBI, and a run scored.
Tyler Shaver (1-1) earned the loss for the Eagles as he gave up four runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts in four innings pitched.
