Young Harris extinguishes Flames 19-6

CLEVELAND, Tenn. | Maddie Peek, Anna Luckie and Ansley Coles each scored three goals as the Young Harris College women's lacrosse team recorded a 19-6 Gulf South Conference victory over Lee University Wednesday (March 27) afternoon at the South Quad Field.

The Mountain Lions improved to 6-4 overall and to 3-1 in the GSC, while the Flames fell to 3-7 and 0-3. Young Harris returns to action Saturday (March 30) when they travel to Marietta, Georgia, for a 4 p.m. match against No. 10 University of Tampa at Kell High School.

Lee scored the opening goal two minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead; however, the Mountain Lions reeled off the next 14 goals to open up a 14-1 lead at the half. Luckie, Peek, Erika Cross, Leigh Anne Turner and Coles each scored twice during the decisive run. 

Cross, Hayley Bartlett, Mary Deatrick, and Turner each finished with two goals, while Taylor Greenberg and Channing Milford had one each. Bartlett and Cross each registered three assists, while Kirsten Barth, Deatrick, Luckie and Peek contributed an assist apiece.

Barth led the way for the Mountain Lions with seven draw controls, while Deatrick collected four. Milford corralled five ground balls, while Peek, Rachel Robb and Barth each scooped up four each. Cross and Luckie each had three ground balls. Peek tallied three caused turnovers, while Cross, Luckie and Milford had two each. Robb tallied seven saves in goal for the Mountain Lions.

Young Harris held advantages in shots (33-18), ground balls (29-26) and draw controls (15-11). The Mountain Lions also forced the Flames into 23 turnovers.
