KANSAS CITY, Mo. | Collin Fischer scored five goals to lead Rockhurst University to a 20-8 Great Lakes Valley Conference men's lacrosse win over Young Harris College Sunday (March 24) afternoon at Bourke Field.
The No. 17 Hawks improved to 8-2 overall and to 4-0 in the GLVC, while the Mountain Lions fell to 5-5 and 1-2. Young Harris returns to action April 6 for a 4 p.m. GLVC match against Shorter University at the YHC Soccer and Lacrosse Field.
After
Bevan Pate scored to tie the match at 2 off a
Ryley Zopfi assist with 8:02 remaining in the first quarter, Rockhurst scored four of the next five goals to open up a 6-3 lead with 1:50 left in the quarter.
Cody Bielec scored the next two YHC goals to pull the Mountain Lions within two goals at 7-5 with 4:48 left before halftime.
The Hawks took control of the match by scoring the next nine goals to up a 16-5 lead with 4:50 remaining in the third quarter. Fischer had three of his goals during the decisive run.
Bielec led the Mountain Lions with three goals, while Pate added two more.
Bruce Silk,
Garrett Blake and
Daniel Zimny had one goal each. Pate added two assists, while Silk and Zopfi had one apiece.
Eric Lemire had five face-off wins for YHC, while
Bobby Kidd III and
Alex Venturino had three ground balls each. Venturino also registered four caused turnovers for the Mountain Lions.
Mason King tallied 19 saves in between the pipes for Young Harris.
