ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. | Young Harris College split a Peach Belt Conference baseball doubleheader with Flagler College Saturday (March 23) evening at Drysdale Field.
Young Harris opened up to a 9-8 game one victory over 11 innings before falling in the nightcap 18-4. The Mountain Lions improved to 18-10 overall and 7-5 in the PBC, while the Saints fell to 16-15 and 10-7. The two teams conclude the series Sunday (March 24) at noon.
Cole Jackson scored on a wild pitch in the top of the second inning of game one to give YHC a 1-0 lead. Flagler took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second with a RBI double from Frankie Martello and a two-run double by Dillon Reed.
Dahlton Cash tied the game at three in the fifth inning with a single to center field that scored
Tucker Greer. Jackson gave the Mountain Lions the lead (5-3) in the fifth with a two-run homer to left field, his second of the season. Young Harris scored one in the sixth and seventh innings to hold a 7-3 advantage.
Flagler tied the game at seven in the eighth inning with a two RBI single from Aaron Anderson. Jackson gave YHC a 9-8 lead in the ninth with a double down the right field line. Ja'Kobi Dasher tied the game in the bottom half of the ninth for the Saints with a single to right center.
Tyler Washington brought home the game-winning run with a single to left field in the top of the 11th inning.
Matt Rogers (1-0) picked up his first win of the season for the Mountain Lions as he gave up one hit and struck out one in two innings of scoreless relief.
Jackson collected three hits, three RBI, and two runs scored. Cash went 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored.
Brett Hawkins tallied four hits and one RBI. Washington had two hits and one RBI, while
Ethan Underwood and
Corley Reynolds each had one hit and a run scored.
Ethan Jones (0-4) earned the loss for the Saints as he gave up one run on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts in one inning pitched.
Zavier Lushington put YHC on the board first in the first inning of game two with a single to the pitcher that scored Hawkins. Washington made it a 2-0 game with a double down the left field line. Flagler scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.
Lushington tied the game at three in the third inning with a sacrifice fly to right field. The Saints scored in each of the next five innings to take an 18-4 lead.
Dylan Nix (3-1) earned the loss for the Mountain Lions as he gave up three runs (two earned) on five hits with three walks in 2.1 innings pitched.
Lushington tallied one hit and two RBI. Cash collected two hits, while Washington had one hit, one RBI, and a run scored.
Robert Girgis (6-0) picked up the win for Flagler as he fave up four runs (three earned) on five hits with four walks and 10 strikeouts in six innings pitched.
